NEW YORK—ABC executives announced yesterday their plans to acquire the popular cartoon Family Guy, and move it to their 11:35 time slot, replacing Ted Koppel and Nightline.
The decision to cancel Nightline, a television favorite for over 20 years, has come under fire from some critics. Roger Feynman, a spokesperson for ABC, defended the network's choice at a recent press conference.
"We were looking for a hip, innovative television show to help attract a younger crowd to our station." said Feynman. He then added, "We also thought that adding Family Guy to our lineup would be a good way to bolster the minority presence on our network. Although I've never actually seen the show myself, I have heard that Family Guy routinely makes reference to people of color and members of minority groups."
