NEW YORK6-year-old Maggie Walters from Newark, New Jersey wandered into a Manhattan adult book store yesterday. This event marked the first breach of Mayor Michael Bloomberg's new child blocking system.
The month-old system was put in place to prevent minors from accessing any of the Big Apple's estimated 43-million pieces of mature content. Using a complex keyword program, it was designed to let children safely experience the many educational and cultural resources of New York City. Its failure left thousands of children and parents disappointed.
"My daughter would love to see The Lion King, but I can't let her go without the blocking system," said Walters' father at a recent press conference. "If only there was someone who could supervise my daughter on her trip . . ."
