LAS ANGELES—UCLA freshmen Ryan Pappas was very helpful Tuesday when he learned that classmate Allison Grey had misplaced her wallet, sources reported.
"I stopped by Allison's room after class," Ryan told reporters. "She seemed to be pretty frazzled. I asked her what was wrong and she said that she had lost her wallet. She was looking all over the room for it."
After their initial greetings, Pappas was invited to sit down and talk with Grey while she searched the room for her wallet.
Grey recently spoke of the ordeal.
"To me," she said, "the best course of action seemed to be for Ryan to just start naming places around the room where I might have left the wallet. Additionally, I thought that he might give the room a visual scan from his seat, you know, just in case it was sitting out in the open."
Pappas first suggested that the wallet might be on the floor. He then went on to recommend that Grey check the pockets of her pants for the missing item.
"Of course, I had to explain to him that while I called it a wallet, it was really more of a purse, and I always kept in a bigger bag, never in my pockets," said Grey.
She then continued, "Actually, most of my pants don't even have pockets."
At about 12:40 p.m., after 20 minutes of intense searching, Grey visited the room next door to inquire whether she had recently left any personal belongings there. Pappas was invited to stay in Grey's room and continue thinking about the lost wallet.
"She was gone for a couple of minutes," said Pappas. "I spent most of the time looking at the pictures on her walls, you know, really trying to wrap my head around the whole situation."
When Grey returned three minutes later, she had the wallet in her hand. It had been left on the floor in her neighbor's room the night before.
"I really couldn't have done this without Ryan's help," said Grey. "I mean, he was the one who initially suggested that it might be on a floor somewhere. . . . to think, if he hadn't stopped by earlier . . . such an amazing man."
Grey thanked Pappas by having sex with him.
